What's MDF boards?

In decoration, various materials are usually used. The most common ones are various solid wood boards and ceramic tile decorations. There are also some relatively uncommon materials, such as MDF boards. I believe many people are unfamiliar with them, but I believe most people have seen them. So what is MDF board? Let's learn about it together!

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is a board made of wood fiber or other plant fiber, which is prepared by fiber preparation, applied with synthetic resin, and pressed under heating and pressure.

According to its density, it can be divided into high-density fiberboard, medium-density fiberboard and low-density fiberboard. The nominal density of medium-density fiberboard ranges from 0.65g/cm3 to 0.80g/cm3.

Due to its uniform structure, fine material, stable performance, impact resistance and easy processing, density board is widely used in domestic furniture, decoration, musical instruments and packaging.

Advantages of MDF board

1. Uniform internal structure, moderate density, good dimensional stability, small deformation, and moderate physical and mechanical properties.

2. The surface is flat and smooth, with good machining performance. Cut veneer, patterns and novel and beautiful decorative paper can be pasted on it. Therefore, it is deeply loved by people in home decoration and is often used to make furniture, partitions, etc.

3. It can be used in modern decorative frameless paintings as the middle frame and middle clip of the painting.

Disadvantages of MDF board

1. The internal structure is powdery, the nail holding force is poor, and the screws are easy to loosen after tightening.

2. The strength is not high, and the height of furniture cannot be too high, most of them are 2100mm.

3. During production, due to its internal structural characteristics, the amount of glue used is large, and the environmental protection coefficient is low to a certain extent.

Which is better, MDF or solid wood:

Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is a high-grade composite material that outperforms solid wood in many areas. Made from recycled wood fibers and resins, medium-density fiberboard is machine-dried and pressed into dense, stable sheets.

Solid wood has many benefits, it is strong and beautiful. However, when subjected to heat and humidity changes, solid wood shrinks. Unless these conditions are carefully controlled, cabinets, doors, or paneling made from solid wood may shrink, crack, or seize.

Medium-density fiberboard is more stable than solid wood and is better able to adapt to changes in heat and humidity. When temperature and humidity rise and fall, solid wood boards usually expand and contract horizontally and vertically. Therefore, cabinets, doors, and paneling made from solid wood require a high degree of care and maintenance.
